When designing our business model it was important for us not to repeat the consulting cycle. When researching we were told by a very successful consultant that the first rule of consulting is “you’re paid for what you know, not the work you do.” The light bulb went off, all previous frustration seemed to be valid. The colorful binders full of ideas and templates, were great but the implementation always fell flat. It was there that the idea for different consulting was born.
We wanted to be coaches. Coaches are typically former players of the game and have experience that others could draw from. We would be different by breaking the first rule of consulting; we were going to execute the work! Instead of binders of generic ideas, we would solve problems creatively for each practice.
